Special Nursing Career Scholarship Program
Inova Health System is pleased to announce scholarship
opportunities with funding available for Fall 2008! There are general
scholarships that are available on a very limited basis and special nursing
career scholarship programs that have been designed. Special Nursing Career
Scholarships will be awarded to high potential Inova employees, academically
recognized college seniors, students enrolled in specially designated nursing
programs, and Inova nurses working on an advanced degree.
Scholarships for the Special Nursing Career Scholarship Program will
be awarded for the Fall 2008 semester!
All students and Inova employees must complete the
following application packet:
Nursing
Scholarship Application Form 
(must be notarized)
- Nursing Scholarship Acknowledgement Form (must be notarized)
- Two letters of recommendation from faculty or professional colleagues. Recommendations will not be accepted from family members or personal acquaintances.
- One-page Student Narrative, explaining career goals as a registered nurse and why the student should be considered for an Inova Nursing Scholarship
- Complete set of official academic transcripts
- Resume
- Acceptance letter (for 2nd Degree students)
*NOTE: The scholarship committee recognizes that not all students will have been notified of acceptance to a nursing program by the scholarship deadline. Therefore, students may submit scholarship applications prior to acceptance notification. If a scholarship is awarded, it will be done so pending acceptance into an accredited nursing program.
Scholarship awards may be used toward tuition and nursing-related lab fees only. Books and other student fees are not covered by the scholarship.
Application packets must be complete by the application deadline (see below for deadline). If they are not complete, you will not be considered for the scholarship program.
Interviews will be required for each scholarship applicant that meets the minimum requirements of the program.

Program Criteria:
- Must have and maintain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA each semester
- Must be entering senior year or final semester at an accredited nursing program
- For Associate and Bachelor nursing programs, attend school full-time and finish the program on time
- For advanced practice degrees, complete the program within five (5) years
- Be eligible to work in the United States (Proper documentation is required and must be included in your application packet if not a U.S. citizen.)
All students and employees are required to:
- Be a student in good standing and maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale)
- Submit official transcripts with grades to Inova Institute For Nursing Excellence at Inova Health System after each grading period until graduation
- Take the NCLEX examination for registered nurse licensure at the first opportunity after graduation
- Begin work with Inova Health System within four months of graduation
- Honor the work commitment made to Inova Health System or repay the scholarship in full
- Be eligible to work in the United States
Any employee who is involuntarily terminated from Inova during the work commitment period due to performance issues, or an employee who voluntarily resigns from Inova during the work commitment period, will be required to pay back all scholarship money awarded to him or her.
Key Dates for Fall 2008 Scholarships:
- Scholarship application packets will be accepted from Jan. 1, 2008,
until May 30, 2008.
Please note: the application deadline has been extended for George Mason University 2nd Degree Program Scholarships (June 30, 2008) and for Marymount University 2nd Degree Program Scholarships (August 30, 2008).

SCHOLARSHIP CATEGORIES – UNDERGRADUATE
Internal Inova Employees
- All full-time employees, part-time employees, PRN, and status D staff are eligible
- Must be entering senior year or final semester at an accredited nursing program
- Awards up to $5,000, not exceeding the cost of the program
- Supplements any tuition assistance awarded through the Educational Assistance Program at Inova Health System (if applicable)
- Requires a 2-year full-time work commitment as a staff nurse at an Inova
facility (See

Commitment Form for Details ) This work commitment must begin no later than
four months after receiving the award
External Applicants
- Must be entering senior year or final semester at an accredited nursing program
- Awards up to $5,000, not exceeding the cost of the program
- Requires a 2-year full-time work commitment as a staff nurse at an Inova
facility. (See

two months after receiving the award.
Inova New Graduate Nurses
- All full-time employee new graduate hires (RN1) with student loans from their nursing education are eligible
- Must have completed a nursing program (AD or BSN) in the last 12 months (at the time of application)
- Awards up to $5,000 for loan repayment, not exceeding the cost of the loan
- Loan documentation must be provided at the interview
- Requires a 2-year full-time work commitment as a staff nurse at an Inova
facility (See

four months after receiving the award.
Advanced Practice
- All full-time employees, part-time employees who are working in a budgeted, Inova tuition assistance-eligible position at Inova
- Must be accepted into an advanced nursing degree program (i.e. RN-BSN, MSN, MS, PhD)
- Must complete the program within five (5) years
- Awards up to $5,000, not exceeding the cost of the program
- Supplements any tuition assistance awarded through the Educational Assistance Program at Inova Health System. Recipients must submit tuition assistance eligible amount and amount utilized in year of application.
- Requires a work commitment that will be served concurrently with the degree
by working in a budgeted, Inova tuition assistance-eligible position at Inova

Inova Summer Externs
- Inova Summer Externs entering their final year of nursing school are eligible
- Awards up to $5,000, not exceeding the cost of the program
- Supplements any tuition assistance awarded through the Educational Assistance Program at Inova Health System (if applicable)
- Requires a 2-year full-time work commitment as a staff nurse at an Inova
facility (See

Northern Virginia Community College Scholarships
- Must be enrolled in the Northern Virginia Community College nursing degree program
- Awards up to $5,000, not exceeding the cost of the program
- For Inova employees, supplements any tuition assistance awarded through the Educational Assistance Program at Inova Health System (if applicable)
- Requires a 2-year full-time work commitment as a staff nurse at an Inova
facility (See

four months after receiving the award.
George Mason University 2nd Degree Program Scholarships
- Must be enrolled in the George Mason University 2nd degree nursing program
- Awards will cover in-state tuition and lab fees to cover the cost of the program (books and other student fees are not covered by the scholarship)
- For Inova employees, supplements any tuition assistance awarded through the Educational Assistance Program at Inova Health System (if applicable)
- Requires a 2-year full-time work commitment as a staff nurse at an Inova
facility. (See

Marymount University 2nd Degree Program Inova Health System/BB&T Scholarships
- Must be entering the final semester of the Marymount University 2nd degree program
- Awards up to $7,500, not exceeding the cost of the program
- For Inova employees, supplements any tuition assistance awarded through the Educational Assistance Program at Inova Health System (if applicable)
- Requires a 2-year full-time work commitment as a staff nurse at an Inova
facility (See
