Nursing Continuing Education
The Inova Institute for Nursing Excellence and the Edelman Nursing Career Development Center would like to announce the availability of philanthropic funds for continuing education and re-certification. The Nursing Stewardship Council, a team of nursing leadership, staff nurses, finance, and foundation representatives, has developed the following programs for distribution of funds:
Annual Edelman Conference
Please look for information on annual Nurses’ Week conference in 2008.
A systemwide conference will be held, free of charge to Inova nurses. Details
of the conference are to be determined. If you have ideas for a conference topic
please e-mail the Edelman
Nursing Career Development Center.
Continuing Education
A limited number of
continuing education awards of up to $1,000 will be awarded each quarter for
Inova nurses, not to exceed conference or course expenses. This is a highly
competitive process, with a required program proposed to share the knowledge
obtained through the conference or course with Inova colleagues. The conference
or seminar that you would like to attend must occur after the next application
deadline, i.e. the March 31, 2008, deadline is for conferences between April 1,
2008, and later. Please note that if your conference occurs between the
application deadline and the notification deadline, i.e., a conference held on
April 4, 2008, is applied for on March 31, 2008, you may wish to apply in the
quarter before, i.e., by the Dec. 31, 2007 deadline. Funds for
this program will be awarded as reimbursement for your expenses for the
conference and seminar you are attending.

* Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
Eligibility requirements include:
- Current budgeted/benefit-eligible Inova staff nurses (Director level and above are not eligible for Edelman Continuing Education funding.)
- Relevant conference or course to nursing and appropriate practice area
- One award per calendar year (January – December) for budgeted/benefit eligible staff nurses
- For nurses other than staff nurses (i.e. Educators, CNSs), awards will be limited to once every two years
- Must present proposal for sharing knowledge with the application. Implementation of your proposal to share knowledge must be completed within 4 months following the conference/seminar attended. A proposal template can be found by clicking here (.pdf).
- Report outcomes related to the implementation of your proposal within six (6) months following the conference/seminar attended
Re-certification
There will be a limited
amount of funds designated for the re-certification application fee for nurse
specialty certifications (i.e. RNC, CCRN, etc.). In order to receive funding,
you must provide evidence of receiving re-certification. All current
budgeted/benefit eligible nurses are eligible to apply for re-certification
funding. The re-certification must be relevant to nursing and the appropriate
practice area.

Nursing Spectrum Continuing Education Credits
All Inova nurses are eligible to receive a
subscription to Nursing Spectrum’s CE Direct online continuing education
program. If you have a current active Nursing Spectrum CE Direct account
(applied for in the last year), you may access your account by clicking on the
link below. You will then need to choose your hospital and enter the Logon ID
and Password provided to you by the Edelman Center.
