New Programs and Services

  • More than 125 clinical trials were conducted throughout Inova Health System offering our community new, state-of-the-art therapies.

  • Virginia Commonwealth University and the Inova Health System Foundation announced a partnership to establish the VCU School of Medicine, Inova/Northern Virginia Division, based at the Inova Fairfax Hospital campus.

  • The Center for Liver Diseases was established to evaluate and treat patients with a variety of liver diseases, ranging from hepatitis C to end-stage liver disease and liver transplant evaluation. The center offers patients the opportunity to participate in clinical trials of emerging treatments for such chronic liver diseases as hepatitis C and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis.

  • The U.S. Department of Transportation and the Ford Motor Company partnered with the Inova Regional Trauma Center to establish a Crash Injury Research and Engineering Network (CIREN). Research focuses on head trauma and other severe injuries and on the effects of new safety technologies. CIREN aims to reduce traffic injuries and fatalities by researching how patients are injured in car crashes.

  • Inova Fairfax Hospital became the first center in Virginia and the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, and one of fewer than 50 centers in the country, to offer Interstim implantation for refractory urinary urge incontinence.

  • Laboratories at Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children implemented the placental cord blood program with the New York Blood Center.

  • Operation Stroke, a three-year partnership with the American Heart Association, was launched to communicate general information and technological advances for stroke treatment.

  • The Inova Rehabilitation Center at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital was selected as the Northern Virginia provider responsible for evaluating and determining the individuals eligible to receive the ADA (American with Disabilities Act) accessible arm of Metro services (bus and rail).
