Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children (IFHC) is one of seven hospitals within the Inova family, a not-for-profit organization that provides care for more than 1 million people annually in the Northern Virginia area, and is perennially ranked as one of “America’s Best Hospitals” by U.S. News and World Reports. IFHC shares the sprawling acreage of the Fairfax Campus with the Inova Fairfax Hospital, the Inova Heart and Vascular Institute, and the Inova Campus of the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. The Inova Fairfax complex also serves as the only Level 1 Trauma center in Northern Virginia, helping over 4,000 trauma victims yearly. With greater than 12,000 deliveries annually, Inova Fairfax Hospital is the fifth largest birthing center in the nation.
To accommodate our rapidly growing pediatric population, Inova is converting the Women and Children’s Building into a dedicated Children’s Hospital within the next 5 years. Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children is the only pediatric tertiary care center in Northern Virginia and services a 19-hospital referral base. Over 400 general pediatricians and pediatric subspecialists are affiliated with IFHC, with a more exclusive subset designated as teaching faculty, many of whom are perennially recognized as among the Top Doctors in the Washington, DC region. Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children also includes all ancillary aspects of pediatric care, including Child Life, social work, discharge coordinators, nutrition, physical, speech, and occupational therapy. Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children is a 186 bed institution including NICU, PICU, hematology/oncology, adolescence, and general medical/surgical units. The 16 bed PICU cares for a wide variety of critically ill children, including a very active cardiothoracic surgery program. The NICU is one of the largest neonatal centers in the nation, featuring 75 beds and 18 neonatologists. Completed in 2006, the dedicated Pediatric Emergency Department, with separate waiting area and playroom, is staffed exclusively by pediatric emergency medicine physicians and pediatric nurses.
