Cardiac Fitness Program
Partnership With Inova Inspires Cardiac Fitness
The Fairfax County Park Authority is working cooperatively with Inova Mount Vernon Hospital’s Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation staff to establish a program designed to help transition clients with a history of coronary artery disease from a clinical exercise setting to a community-based exercise setting. The program will also be available, with medical clearance from a physician, for individuals who have risk factors for heart disease, including diabetics. The program, to be implemented at the Lee District RECenter, serves as a pilot program between the hospital and Park Authority.
The program will consist of two weekly exercise classes supervised by Inova Mount Vernon Hospital Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation clinical staff. The RECenter will provide gym and fitness center facilities and will assist clients in setting up a FitLinxx orientation and application which helps track exercise performance and frequency.
In addition to the supervised classes, program participants will have access to annual risk factor assessments, cardiac rehab education and the benefits of passholder membership. For more information about this program contact Monica Phillips, manager, Fitness and Wellness Section, Park Services Division at 703-324-8756 or Lynne Weir, Clinical Coordinator, Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation, Inova Mount Vernon Hospital at 703-664-8257.
