If you are sitting in the car for extended travel during your recovery (your physician can give specific advice on travel), take frequent rest stops to walk, and drink fluids every 1 to 2 hours. This is especially true for cardiac surgery patients who may need to travel a distance to return home after discharge from the hospital.
