Helpful Hints for a Good Night's Sleep

Some people are able to eliminate sleep-related problems by adopting the following habits:

  • avoid frequent naps
  • restrict alcohol and caffeine before bedtime
  • go to bed at a regular time
  • be aware of side effects from medications
  • exercise daily, but not immediately before bedtime
  • sleep in a quiet, well-ventilated room
  • see your physician for ongoing sleep problems

If these methods don't produce improvement, call your physician or the Inova Alexandria Hospital Sleep Disorders Center at 703-504-3220.

  • Do you have trouble falling asleep?
  • Do you sleep too much?
  • Do you become drowsy at work or while driving?
  • Does your snoring keep you or a loved one awake?
  • Are you experiencing mood swings or excessive irritability?

If you answer "yes" to any of these questions, you may have a sleep disorder. For more information, call the Inova Alexandria Hospital Sleep Disorders Center: 703-504-3220.
