Barry
S. Strauch, MD, is the Chairman of the Department of Medicine. He has been on the active staff of the
Madeline
Erario, MD, FACP, is vice-chair of the Department of Medicine at Inova Fairfax Hospital and serves as the director of Graduate and Continuing Medical Education for Inova Health System. In addition to her administrative roles, Dr. Erario was recently appointed medical director of the Inova Executive Health Center.
Dr. Erario is board-certified in Internal Medicine and received her postdoctoral training at Georgetown University School of Medicine, where she served as chief resident in the Department of Medicine in 1997 and 1998. Since then, Dr. Erario's role on the medical staff of Inova Fairfax Hospital has allowed her to pursue her interest in medical education and she has received faculty appointments as an assistant professor of Medicine at both Georgetown and Virginia Commonwealth universities. In addition, Dr. Erario completed professional development work through the Stanford Faculty Development Program for Clinical Teaching and the Yale Primary Care Program for Medical Education and Research.
In 2002, Dr. Erario was awarded the United Nations Association of the National Capital Area Human Rights Award for her work with political refugees. Most recently, she was selected by Inova to participate in the Advisory Board Fellowship for Health Care Leaders.
Craig
Cheifetz, MD, is the assistant dean for the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine Inova Campus and the director of undergraduate medical education for Inova Health System. In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Cheifetz was recently appointed as director of the Inova Executive Health Center, an innovative program designed to meet the needs of strategic companies and their key executives. He also serves as co-chief of the Internal Medicine Section, Department of Medicine, Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Dr. Cheifetz received his internal medicine training at Georgetown School of Medicine. He has been an integral part of Inova Fairfax Hospital and Inova Fairfax Hospital for Children and its medical staff since completing his chief residency seven years ago. His primary interest is as a clinical educator, having completed both the Stanford Faculty Development Facilitators program for Clinical Teaching and the Harvard-Macy Program for Leaders in Medical Education. He was instrumental in the formation of the successful faculty development program within the Department of Medicine at Inova Fairfax Hospital, having trained more than 110 clinicians in the area of clinical teaching.
Dr. Cheifetz lectures nationally in the area of clinical teaching skills. He has received numerous awards and was recently presented the Top Young Internist Award by the American College of Physicians for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

David
Duncan, MD, attended the Medical College of Georgia and completed Internal Medicine training at Georgetown University Medical Center in 1995. Dr. Duncan was the Chief Medical Resident at Inova Fairfax Hospital in 1995-96.
Dr. Duncan was the first internal medicine hospitalist at Inova Fairfax Hospital and was the Associate Program Director for Georgetown University’s Internal Medicine residency from 1997-2003. He has been the Medical Director of the Hospitalist Division until July 2006 and is now the full-time Physician Advisor for Case Management and Utilization Review. Dr. Duncan is also the Chairman of the peer review committee for internal medicine at Fairfax Hospital. Over the past few years, he has developed interests in healthcare policy and access to insurance.
Rishi Garg, MD, attended medical school at the Medical College of Virginia and he finished his Internal Medicine training from Georgetown University in 2004.
He has been working as a hospitalist at Inova Fairfax Hospital for the past three years and is currently serving as the Medical Director of the Hospitalist Division. Aside from his clinical duties, Dr. Garg is a part-time Physician Advisor for Case Management/Utilization Review and is on various hospital committees including the Physician Satisfaction Team, Insulin Task Force and Case Management Committee.
Dr. Jason S. Vourlekis, M.D., FACP, FCCP, graduated from Northwestern University School of Medicine in 1991. He completed his medical residency at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 1994. Following a two-year stint as Instructor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, he entered training as a pulmonary/critical care fellow at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center. Following completion of his fellowship, he remained on faculty at the University of Colorado and at National Jewish Medical and Research Center for three years, as a member of the Clinical Interstitial Lung Disease Program. In 2002, Dr. Vourlekis joined the National Cancer Institute as a Program Director where he oversaw clinical trials related to lung cancer screening and prevention. He joined the Department of Medicine at Inova Fairfax Hospital in 2005 as a Medical Intensivist and is currently serving as the Medical Director of the Medical Critical Care Service. His clinical and research interests include acute lung injury/ARDS and sepsis.
