Advance Directives The Virginia Advance Medical Directive helps ensure that your health care choices are followed in the event you are unable to communicate those choices to us. A living will allows you to state the types of treatment you do or do not wish to receive subsequent to the diagnosis of a terminal condition or if you are ever in a persistent vegetative state. A durable power of attorney for health care lets you legally appoint a relative or close friend to make health care decisions for you if you are unable to do so. This could include the appointment of a relative or close friend to make an anatomical gift for you.
Inova Health System's booklet Your Right to Decide can provide you with more information about Advance Directives and the Virginia Advance Medical Directive form. Contact the Patient Relations office at 703-776-3663 to have this booklet mailed to you.
