MRI-Guided Breast Biopsy
MRI-Guided Core Breast Biopsy
Inova Fairfax Hospital's Outpatient MRI Center has added a new technology, MRI-guided core breast biopsy, that enhances the evaluation and management of MRI detected breast abnormalities. This biopsy is a minimally invasive procedure and has equivalent accuracy to other more invasive surgical procedures.
Breast MRI is one of the newest advances in the diagnosis of breast cancer
for patients with a newly diagnosed breast cancer and in some cases, for patients
who are at high risk for breast cancer. Breast MRI is highly sensitive in detecting
breast cancers that mammography or ultrasound may not detect. The images produced
can more accurately assess the extent of tumor before surgery and without any
radiation exposure.
