Funding
The REBUILD program was developed in conjunction with the Inova Regional Trauma
Center with the support of Inova Fairfax Hospital and the wider Inova Health System
resources. In July 2000, REBUILD received a generous $50,000 gift from the Bank
of America, which enabled the program to expand its efforts to include a wider
range of trauma patients and medical professionals.
This expansion included the development of two new support groups (Traumatic Brain
Injury and Teen Support), the production and distribution of a quarterly newsletter
written by and for trauma patients and medical professionals, an increase in community
presentations by REBUILD members, and the development of a REBUILD Web site.
REBUILD has obtained grant funding from the Centers for Disease Control to facilitate
the continuation of the program and the development of many new aspects of the
program.
Goals
Current goals that would be realized with this funding include:
- Create a support group to facilitate emotional recovery of pediatric trauma patients and their families.
- Provide REBUILD training to a wider range of professionals, including mental health professionals, members of the clergy, insurance case managers, and police officers.
- Offer REBUILD presentations to high school drivers education classes.
- Develop trauma support groups in high schools.
- Create educational materials (video/power point) for medical professionals using REBUILD presenters to promote healthy, sensitive, caring practice.
Future Goals
Longer term goals include:
- Educate trauma centers nationally about the benefits of including a REBUILD program in their center.
- Support the development of such programs
