Evaluations
During the first visit, the child receives a:
- complete examination by physicians
- speech and language evaluation by a speech pathologist
- complete hearing evaluation by a hearing specialist (audiologist)
- orthodontic and dental examination
Parents may be referred for further genetic counseling and additional
consultations when indicated for the child or family.
The program team
includes the following specialists:
plastic surgeons
- ear, nose and throat physicians (ENT)
- orthodontists
- oral/maxillofacial surgeons
- speech and language pathologists
- audiologists
- geneticists
- clinical social worker
- team coordinator
When necessary, the program team also can use the services of other specialists, including pediatricians, pediatric surgeons, pediatric dentists, anesthesiologists, neurosurgeons, ophthalmologists, psychiatrists, psychologists and radiologists.
After the evaluation, the team members meet to make recommendations regarding specific treatment needs. A treatment plan is drawn up and shared with the parents. Scheduling and appointments are coordinated through the center.
The treatment team makes a long range commitment to the child, providing regular follow-up care and evaluations until the child reaches adulthood.
