Inclement Weather Policy
If inclement weather closes Loudoun County public schools
for the day or causes them to close early, groups and programs scheduled for
that day will be cancelled.
Children's Support Programs
Registration is required for these programs. For more information
or to register for a children's group, call Jenny Eckert, MSW, Inova Life With
Cancer, Children's Program Manager, at 703-208-5623.
- Children's Support Group
Designed to address the unique concerns that children may have when someone they love has cancer. Through a variety of group activities, artwork and discussion, young people learn about cancer and the changes that cancer brings to their lives. They learn that they are not alone and that there are helpful ways to express and deal with their feelings emotions.
This group is for children aged 5 to 12 who have a family member with cancer. Meets once a week on Tuesdays for eight weeks, from 4:30-5:30 p.m. at the Inova Loudoun Hospital Radiation Oncology Center.
- "Good Grief" (Children's Bereavement Support Group)
Designed to help children cope with a loss in their family. This group is for children aged 5 to 12 who have a lost family member to cancer. Meets once a week on Thursdays for eight weeks, from 5–6 p.m. at the Inova Loudoun Hospital Radiation Oncology Center.
Breast Cancer Support Groups
Two support groups hold monthly sessions open to any woman diagnosed with
or recovering from breast cancer. The groups are facilitated by Kim Callen,
a breast cancer survivor and a licensed clinical social worker. Both groups
meet the fourth Monday of each month in the Radiation Oncology Center.
- 5:30–6:30 p.m.
For women newly diagnosed, making decisions about treatment or starting treatment for the first time. - 6:30–8 p.m.
For women finished with treatment, who have a recurrence or who have metastatic breast cancer.
Registration is not required but is requested for first-time attendees. Call Karen Archer at 703-858-8857 for more information.
Creating and Connecting
A fun and relaxing art therapy group for patients, family and friends touched by
cancer. Meets every other month on a Saturday from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., at the
Inova Loudoun Hospital Radiation Oncology Center. Registration is required.
Gentle and Restorative Yoga Class
A gentle and restorative yoga class intended to help anyone who has been
diagnosed with cancer. The class focuses on increasing flexibility, strength and
circulation while improving concentration, promoting relaxation and reducing
stress. Meets weekly on Thursdays at the Inova Loudoun Hospital Radiation
Oncology Center. Registration is required. All participants must
complete and sign a Participant Information sheet and waiver form before
attending the first class. Wear comfortable clothing
and bring a yoga mat and blanket.
Look Good ... Feel Better
A program for women coping with the cosmetic side effects of chemotherapy
or radiation therapy. Meets every other month from 6:45 to 9 p.m. at the
Inova Loudoun Hospital Radiation Oncology Center. Registration is required.
Man to Man
A support group for men coping with prostate cancer, and for these men's
families. Group meets the second Tuesday of each month from 6:30 to 8
p.m. at the Loudoun County Senior Center, Cascades Market Place.
Registration is not required.
Meditation and Guided Imagery Group
A support group for patients, family and friends touched by cancer. Learn about and practice the art of
meditation and guided imagery. Meets the last Tuesday of each month from
6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Inova Loudoun Hospital Radiation Oncology Center.
Registration is not required.
Reiki
Reiki can help you relax and rebalance. Sessions are the
fourth Thursday of each month from 6:45 to 8 p.m. at the Inova Loudoun
Hospital Radiation Oncology Center. Class size is limited and registration is
required.
Spiritual Support Group
A support group for patients, family and friends touched by cancer. This
group helps individuals draw upon their own spiritual resources to help
them cope with the cancer experience. Meets the third Tuesday of each month
from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Inova Loudoun Hospital Radiation Oncology
Center. Registration is not required.
Women's Group
This support group, open to any woman with a cancer diagnosis, meets the
first Wednesday of each month from 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Inova Loudoun
Hospital Radiation Oncology Center. Registration is not required.
