Cancer Services - Ambulatory Care Unit

The American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer has accredited Inova Mount Vernon Hospital as a community hospital cancer program. Our nurses are certified to administer chemotherapy and provide other supportive care to people with cancer.

For adults with cancer, anemia and other diseases, our Ambulatory Care Unit provides specialized short-term services including:

• infusion therapy (blood products, chemotherapy, peripheral IV fluid, IV antibiotics)
• therapeutic injections (anti-coagulants, growth factors, pain management)
• interventional procedures (lumbar puncture, paracentesis, thoracentesis)
• wound dressing changes
• Groshong catheter instruction and care

Our cancer program is part of the American Cancer Society's facility information profile program (FIPS). FIPS is an Internet listing of the resources and services available at participating hospitals. It was developed in combination with the COC and ACS to promote community outreach and consumer-based education.
