Cardiac Rehabilitation

Inova Mount Vernon Hospital's cardiac rehabilitation program promotes heart health through positive lifestyle changes. The program is open to people with heart disease including:

• congestive heart failure
• peripheral artery disease (PAD)
• those at risk of developing heart disease
• those recovering from a heart attack
• those recovering from cardiac surgery

The exercise component focuses on safe aerobic workouts and strength training. Patients are closely monitored during each session.

The educational component emphasizes blood pressure and blood glucose control, sensible eating, stress management, and smoking cessation. We urge loved ones to take an active role in prevention and recovery by attending the class and the monthly discussion group, which provide education and support.

New Service - Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP®)
Inova Mount Vernon Hospital's cardiac rehabilitation program also offers enhanced external counter pulsation (EECP®), a noninvasive procedure that increases coronary blood flow to reduce the symptoms of angina. (A physician's referral is needed.)

Learning your risk factors for heart disease is an important part of prevention, so we offer a self-refer heart health assessment that evaluates diet and exercise along with personal and family health history and makes recommendations for follow-up. We'll also give you educational material to help you stay heart healthy.
