High School Volunteers
Junior volunteers at Inova Mount Vernon Hospital are an added resource to our volunteer team. Young people between the ages of 14 and 18 come to us from several public and private high schools within Fairfax County and neighboring areas.
Many junior volunteers become volunteers because they are fulfilling a community service requirement as part of a religious affiliation or civic class. Many continue as volunteers after meeting their requirement because they find volunteering a fulfilling and rewarding experience. During the summer months, approximately 60 young people volunteer at the hospital; during the school year, approximately 35. Volunteering is a great way for young people to meet new friends and realize the importance of caring for and about people.
Job opportunities for our junior volunteers are similar to the opportunities to senior volunteers. Check out Volunteer Opportunities and Benefits for a description of the volunteer opportunities available.
The Inova Mount Vernon Auxiliary also awards scholarship and savings bonds to selected junior volunteers who give their time and talents to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital. Check out Scholarships/Savings Bonds for more information on these programs.
