Outpatient Substance-Abuse Treatment
The critical bridge between a patient's last drink or drug use and the ability for addicted persons to take full responsibility for their recovery is the Inova CATS Outpatient Program.
Criteria
To maximize the benefit of outpatient treatment, the patient should be
alcohol/drug free and not experiencing any acute physical withdrawal symptoms.
Patients are referred to the Outpatient Program either directly after assessment
or following the completion of one of the more intensive phases of treatment
(detoxification, inpatient rehabilitation or day treatment).
Program Summary
The Inova CATS Outpatient Program offers 56 counseling group sessions
over a 36-week period. The program is organized in three phases:
- Early Recovery -- For those new to recovery. Broad goals are acceptance of addiction, understanding through education of disease and recovery processes, and orientation to and use of 12-Step support groups. Families and concerned others are invited to attend. (Three two-hour group sessions per week for six weeks. More frequent sessions may be provided based on individual patient needs.)
- Relapse Prevention -- Available to patients with a history of relapse after some period of sobriety and to patients who have completed the Early Recovery phase of treatment. Group focus is to learn about and develop skills to prevent relapse and to make the lifestyle changes necessary to support recovery. Families and concerned others participate. (Two 1 1/2-hour group sessions per week for 10 weeks.)
- Sober Living -- Final phase of outpatient treatment. Available to patients who have completed the Relapse Prevention phase of treatment and who have developed a sober support network within AA or NA. Groups are driven by patient issues and focus on problem solving and managing relapse warning signs. Patients only. (One 1 1/2-hour group session per week for 16 weeks.)
