“Being presented this outstanding achievement award acknowledges our
commitment to excellence and the high quality work of our staff and physicians,”
said Kirsten Edmiston, MD, Inova Fairfax Hospital Cancer Center director.
More than 450 programs were evaluated by the CoC for this award. The
programs were given an on-site review of many areas including the delivery of
care, clinical services, community outreach, and leadership in setting the
standard for cancer programs.
“Part of providing quality cancer care is
looking at the full scope of options available to the patient, including
education, research, outreach and the most current data regarding cancer
treatment,” said Nicholas Robert, MD, Inova Fairfax Hospital cancer committee
chairman. “We are proud that the CoC determined that our cancer program is an
outstanding performer.”
A program recognized by CoC for this award means that
patients undergoing treatment will have access to:
• State-of-the art
services and equipment
• A multi-specialty team approach to coordinate
the best treatment options
• Clinical trial and treatment
options
• Cancer-related information, education and support
• A
cancer registry and follow-up
• On-going monitoring
• Care close
to home
The CoC is comprised of a group of nationally-recognized cancer
organizations dedicated to improving survival and quality of life for cancer
patients. The Outstanding Achievement Award was established in 2004 as a way to
recognize cancer programs that provide stellar care to their patients.
