Treatment Philosophy:
The primary focus in this clinic is orthopedic
rehabilitation, with an emphasis on manual therapy. Other patient populations
served include sports injuries, pediatrics, and gait/ balance disorders.
We have three therapists with advanced training in manual therapy, including two
manual certifications. All patients are treated with a focus on
symptom reduction and improved biomechanical function. Treatment plans
are individually developed to best suit the needs of each patient. Patients are regularly educated on how to independently manage their
problems and improve their functional status.
Equipment:
There are a variety of state of the art modalities, including
new electric stimulation/ ultrasound machines, and a Micro light
cold laser. There is also variety of weight equipment, resistive bands, a
Biodex balance trainer, and a Biodex System 3 isokinetic machine, which can be
used for strength training and for isokinetic strength testing.
Facility:
The Landmark clinic boasts a spacious fourth-floor suite with a
great view of Alexandria. There is plenty of free parking with a
wheelchair accessible building.
There are five private treatment rooms for evaluations and for private treatments as needed.
Staff Biographies:
Seth Blee, PT, MS, CFMT
Seth is the clinic director of Inova Physical Therapy Center at
Landmark. He graduated from Boston College’s pre-medical program with a BS
in philosophy. He then went on to physical therapy school and graduated
with honors from Columbia University in New York with a Master’s of Science in
Physical Therapy. Since graduating, Seth has worked with several different
patient populations, but has focused the majority of his time in
orthopedics. He has completed extensive continuing education coursework
and training and has received the Functional Orthopedic Certification from the
Institute of Physical Art in 2005. He then went on to complete the
Certification in Functional Manual Therapy from the IPA in 2006. He has
done guest lecturing in orthopedics, joint mobilizations and PNF techniques at
local universities as well as throughout the northern Virginia community.
Seth also serves as the Cite Coordinator for Clinical Education for all 15 of
Inova’s outpatient clinics. He is an APTA credentialed clinical instructor
and has been educating students for six years.
Tasneem Shaikh, PT, MS
Tasneem is a senior physical therapist at
Inova Physical Therapy Center Landmark. She graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree
in biology. She later graduated with a Masters of Science in Physical
Therapy from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth
University. Tasneem has been a physical therapist with Inova for seven years, the last three of
which have been spent at the Landmark clinic. She has also completed
multiple classes in manual therapy and joint mobilizations and has completed
Inova’s rigorous clinical ladder to become a senior therapist. She has
been a liaison to the community, representing Inova Physical Therapy Center at multiple community service
events. Tasneem is also an APTA credentialed clinical instructor and has
been doing clinical teaching for four years.
Jennifer Heater, MPT
Jennifer has been a physical therapist with Inova for four
years. She graduated (Summa Cum Laude) from Villa Julie College in
Maryland with a BS in Liberal Arts. Jennifer then attended the University
of Maryland at Baltimore, where she graduated with a Master's in Physical
Therapy. Jen has completed extensive coursework in manual therapy and has
passed her Certification in Integrated Manual Therapy from the Great Lakes
Seminars. Jen has spent all of her physical therapy career in orthopedics and has
recently become certified in ergonomic assessments for the
workplace. She is also an APTA credentialed clinical instructor.
Vanessa Hodge, DPT
Vanessa has been a physical therapy with Inova Physical Therapy Center for over three
years. She completed her undergraduate schooling at the College of William
and Mary and received her degree in Kinesiology and Psychology. She then
graduated from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth
University with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy. She has worked
exclusively with Inova Physical Therapy Center in orthopedics and has recently passed her Orthopedic
Specialist Certification exam from the American Physical Therapy Association. In
2007, Vanessa achieved the distinction of senior therapist with Inova Physical Therapy Center.
Vanessa has also become an APTA credentialed clinical instructor this
year.
Kandice Minor, DPT
Kandice joined the Inova Physical Therapy Center staff in 2006. She
attended James Madison University and graduated with a BS in Health
Sciences. Kandice later graduated from Drexel University in Philadelphia
with her Doctorate in Physical Therapy and a concentration in musculoskeletal
injuries.
Sonja Peake, PT
Sonja joined Inova Physical Therapy Center in April 2007. She graduated
from the University of the Pacific in California with a degree in Fine Arts/
Graphic Design. She then made a career change and spent two-and-a-half years taking
courses to go to physical therapy school. She then attended Hardin-
Simmons University in Texas and received her Masters in Physical Therapy in
2001. Sonja has spent all of her physical therapy career in orthopedics working in
Oklahoma and Washington State before moving to the DC area.
