Outpatient Neurological Rehabilitation Program
The Outpatient Neurologic Rehab Program offers comprehensive therapeutic intervention for patients whose lifestyles and physical abilities have changed due to stroke, brain injury, spinal cord or neuromuscular disease. The clinic houses a fully equipped gym, private testing/treatment rooms, a vision training area and a fully equipped kitchen. Our interdisciplinary treatment team includes professionals skilled in treating the physical, psychosocial, cognitive, perceptual and visual deficits associated with neurological dysfunction. Program Goals
The goal of the Outpatient Neurologic Rehab Program is to help patients achieve their highest personal level of functioning and independence. The treatment team works with patients throughout recovery to reach shared goals that include:
- restore mobility and self-care skills
- improve communications skills
- improve pragmatic language skills using a video-assisted process
- improve visual perceptual skills using specialized equipment and exercises
- retrain cognitive function for safe reintegration into home and community
- determine patients' physical, visual and cognitive readiness to drive through clinical community mobility evaluation
- educate patients and family members
The Outpatient Neurologic Rehab Program's patient-centered philosophy encourages families to participate actively in the rehabilitation process. Patients and families are provided with information regarding community support services. In addition, consultation may be arranged to assess and adapt the patient's home and workplace to optimize functioning and independence in these settings.
