The kidney transplant program is located in Fairfax, VA, at 8503 Arlington Boulevard, Suite 200. The program was established in 1992 and performs 100 transplants annually. It was one of the largest kidney transplant programs in the state and was ranked one of the top 50 programs by volume in 1999. Also, our center's survival rates exceed the United States' rates.
Kidney transplantation occurs when a kidney is donated by deceased donation or living donation. In the case of living donation, laparoscopic nephrectomies are performed. This technology decreases donor patient length of stay and enhances donor recovery.
Facilities and staff are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide consultation and immediate care for transplant patients. The program emphasizes a continuum of care and support for the patient and family from the initial referral through transplantation and postoperative extended care.
The kidney and kidney/pancreas program at Inova Fairfax Hospital offers both pediatric and adult patients with end-stage disease the best option for a normal and healthy life free from dialysis and related complications. Few therapies are as rewarding as kidney or kidney/pancreas transplantation, which allows patients to resume to a healthy active life.
